Getting your book into peoples hands! That's what distribution is about. The problem is, well, getting serious distribution can be a hard thing to do. Having a hand bound book, unfortunately doesn't help matters very much either. But there are other options, including the hundreds of indie zine distro's. There are literally hundreds, but instead of listing them here, I'll just add a link to a list of them, the great and resourceful:
Zine Street. Check through the listings and see which distro's tickle your fancy.These types of distro's usually offer a few different payment options if you are accepted; distro credit, consignment (they pay you after they sell), and wholesale (usually at 50% the cover price).
You can also try selling at local bookstores. The smaller places tend to be more receptive to local authors. Some only deal through mainstream distributors, but it doesn't hurt to ask!
